Sattler Zweigelt 2009 Neusiedlersee, Austria $24 btl Spicy, almost cedary aromas; charming but not (yet?) sweet fruit – it’s the Claret side of Zweigelt, almost like the finely dusty Gobelsburger, though its wild lavender overtones indicate the warmer climate this grows in. Vina Robles RED 4 2009 Paso Robles, California $25 btl Aromas of dark fruit and dried prunes with notes of clove and allspice. Opens with juicy ripe fruit, hints of oak and spice; medium bodied with elegant tannins and a long finish Villa San-Juliette Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 Paso Robles California $25 btl Persistent flavors of blackberry, layered with cherry, chocolate and cassis with velvety tannins. Domaine Coudoulis 2009 Lirac, France $29 btl The wine has a dense purple color, a big, sweet kiss of garrigue, blackberries, kirsch, barbecue smoke, damp earth, and wild strawberries. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins as well as real opulence and power, this is a big, fleshy Lirac that drinks well now, but should evolve beautifully for up to a decade or more. Medium bodied, savory, ripe, and concentrated on the palate 91 Points Saint émilion Grand Cru 2004 France $52 btl mouth, the 2001 Chateau Grand Corbin is full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and silky tannins. One is won over by the clarity of the fruity aromas and the delicate tannic framework. Luca Malbec 2008 Mendoza, Argentina $65 btl Aroma reveals an alluring nose of smoke, cedar, spice box, black cherry and rose petal. Full bodied well balanced layered with wonderful tannins. 92 pts Domaine de la Solitude 2006 Chateauneuf de Pape, France $79 btl It is classic old style revealing lavender, licorice, roasted herb, meat juice, black currant, and kirsch liqueur characteristics. Full bodied, dense, and expressive. 92 points Mendel Unus 2008 Mendoza $92 btl 70% Malbec 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, it is purple in color, on the nose a splendid bouquet of spice box, incense, lavender, earth notes, black currant, and blackberry with a hint of balsamic in the background. Full bodied in the mouth with dense, layered flavors and a plush palate feel. Tremendous wine. 92 points |
